Presentation
Created in 1974, the Secrétariat Permanent des Organisations Non Gouvernementales (SPONG) is the first collective of NGOs and associations under private law, working in Burkina Faso. The collective has 165 member organizations.
Open to all NGOs and development associations working in Burkina Faso, it is intended as a framework for consultation, enabling civil society organizations to get to know each other, to act more coherently in the field, and to work together in dialogue with the government and technical and financial partners. It also aims to be a label of credibility for NGOs and development associations in Burkina Faso.
Since its creation, the SPONG has been a framework for consultation, an interface between NGOs and the government, and a facilitator for pooling the efforts of NGOs and associations working in Burkina Faso. To this end, SPONG is an important part of Burkina Faso’s civil society, and acts as an interface between the government, the private sector and the country’s development partners, in its capacity as leader of Burkina Faso’s associative movement.
